What is a Public Inquiry? 
A public inquiry is a formal hearing held by a traffic commissioner, or deputy traffic commissioner. The post of traffic commissioner dates back to the 1st January, 1931. 

Public inquiries can be held:

• to determine Operator Licence applications;
• to review operating centres (for Goods Operator Licence only);
• for regulatory reasons;
• etc.
